Entry Requirements for La Trobe University – Medicine (Year 12 Pathway via Bachelor of Biomedical Science (Medical) → MD Rural Pathway)

  • Interview: Yes — MMI (online); shortlist based on academic results and rurality
  • Academic Achievement: Yes — ATAR; to progress to MD (Rural Pathway) you must achieve WAM ≥ 70 during BBiomedSc (Medical)

Purpose-built rural pathway: complete BBiomedSc (Medical) at La Trobe, then progress (subject to requirements) to the University of Melbourne’s Doctor of Medicine (MD) – Rural Pathway.

Entry requirements

Eligibility

  • Rural background (Modified Monash Model MMM2–MMM7) — provide rurality evidence (5 years consecutive or 10 years cumulative) via La Trobe’s Rurality form.
  • Year 12 (or equivalent) applicants are considered via VTAC; check La Trobe pages for current indicative selection ranks by campus.

Shortlisting & Interview (MMI)

  • MMIs are online, typically in the first week of December and again in the first week of January.
  • December shortlisting considers: La Trobe Entrance Rank (from Year 11 via School Endorsement) or prior tertiary results, plus rurality tier. January shortlisting considers official ATAR (or equivalent) and rurality tier.
  • Attendance at your allocated MMI time is mandatory if invited.

Progression to MD (Rural Pathway)

  • Maintain at least WAM 70 and continue meeting regional living requirements set by the UniMelb MD (Rural Pathway).

Aspire Early Offer Program Early conditional offers (from September), subject to meeting the adjusted Aspire ATAR, subject prerequisites and essential requirements. Check current-cycle closing date on Aspire pages.
La Trobe Special Access Schemes (VTAC) Selection-rank adjustments for eligible applicants; maximum 20 aggregate points, including RA4 = 12.5 and RA5 = 15 where applicable.
Priority Access / Regional Benefits Programs for students from La Trobe priority/regional schools and regional campuses; may include selection-rank adjustments and scholarships (course-eligibility rules apply).
Bonded Medical Places (Medicine pathway) Option linked to BBiomedSc (Medical) for a direct route to medicine under bonded arrangements; MD progression requires WAM ≥70 and regional living (see La Trobe page).
