Simulated UCAT Day Workshop: 2-part program

The Simulated UCAT Day (SUD) 2-Part workshop conducted over a full day and a  follow-up session.

If you are in Yrs. 10, 11, 12, or you may be older and considering sitting the UCAT in the future, then this program is for you. The Simulated UCAT Workshop program is ideal and often a necessary step towards effective and efficient preparation for the UCAT.

This event will be conducted by the National Institute of Education in partnership in partnership with UCAT Preparation Australia, and MICAS (Medical Interviews and Career Advice Services).

The workshop is primarily designed to cover fundamental techniques in navigating all five sections of the UCAT test and also for participants to gain a better understanding of their own level of preparedness for the test. Over the course of the years, the program has evolved into a more comprehensive and holistic exercise, which not only achieves its primary goal, but it is also exposing students to a wealth of knowledge about all other aspects of the journey into a medical degree. The latest update has seen the program grow into a 2-Day event as the sheer amount of content covered was too great to fit into a 1-day program.

SUD Content details

Day-1: Students will spend the day with our specialist teachers and will be able to ask questions and address any concerns they may have about the test. The 5 sections of the UCAT test, which will be covered at the workshop are listed below:

Verbal Reasoning - assess your ability to critically evaluate information presented in a written form.

Decision Making - assess your ability to make sound decisions and judgments using complex information.

Quantitative Reasoning - assess your ability to critically evaluate information presented in a numerical form.

Abstract Reasoning - assess your ability the use of convergent and divergent thinking to infer relationships from the information.

Situational Judgement - assess your ability to measure the capacity to understand real-world situations and to identify critical factors and appropriate behaviour in dealing with them.

For those attending the in-person workshops, soon after lunch, comes the challenge. Participants will be sitting a UCAT mock test under strict test-time conditions. Just like the actual test, each section will be timed separately. Students will not be allowed to write on the test paper and will only use a notepad and calculator where required. Sitting the trial test will give the candidates more time to better prepare for the real UCAT, and to better address their weaker areas.

Students, who will be opting for the LIVE online SUD workshop, will still have to attempt the test, except the test will be provided to them to be attempted after the full-day program. Students will be provided with answers and explanations to the test, which they can utilise to complete further study at their own time.

Day-2 (Part-2): The 3-hour LIVE online session will be run within a few days of the full-day event. It will provide insightful and extremely valuable information about the application process into medicine and guidance for future planning strategies. Finally, we will spend some time to better explain the Medical Interview process as well as providing students with preliminary instructions on how to start preparing for this very important stage of the admission process. This forum will be an opportunity to answer any general questions that students and their parents may have in relation to the pathways into medicine.
