Entry requirements

Eligibility (School Leavers)

  • Open to current Year 12 (or equivalent) and those who completed Year 12 within the past two years without commencing tertiary study (including Certificate IV or above).

How to apply (School Leavers)

  • Apply via VTAC
  • Complete the UCAT ANZ in the year prior to entry
  • Interview shortlisting:
    • December round: invitations based on UCAT total only for Victorian and Dean’s Rural List applicants.
    • January round: invitations based on an equal weighting of UCAT total and ATAR aggregate (incl. adjustments such as SEAS).
  • Final ranking for offers: ATAR + UCAT + MMI each weighted 33.3%.

Academic and subject prerequisites (School Leavers)

  • Minimum ATAR eligibility: 90 (competitive selection is typically much higher).
    • VCE (Units 3 & 4):
      • English: study score ≥ 35 in English (EAL) or ≥ 30 in English other than EAL
      • Chemistry: study score ≥ 30
    • IB:
      • English (meet ONE): ≥ 5 in English A (SL) or ≥ 4 in English A (HL), or ≥ 6 in English B (SL), or ≥ 5 in English B (HL)
      • Chemistry: ≥ 5 (SL) or ≥ 4 (HL)
      • Biology: not required; a free online Biology bridging program is offered mid-January for those without Year 12 Biology (approx. 20–30 hours/week for 5–7 weeks).
        • Interview: Yes – Multiple Mini Interview (MMI); 6 stations, 2 min reading + 8 min interview per station; conducted online (Zoom)
        • Academic Achievement: ATAR and prerequisite subjects (English & Chemistry)
        • Selection weighting (offers): ATAR + UCAT + MMI are each weighted 33.3%

UCAT ANZ

  • Required for all domestic applicants; SJT band used only as a secondary tiebreaker if UCAT totals are the same.

Monash medical interview format

  • MMI: Multi Mini Interviews online via Zoom
  • 6 stations
  • Each station gives you 2 minutes to read the scenario and 8 minutes for the interview (10 minutes total).
  • Including pre-brief and debrief, the full circuit takes about 70–80 minutes.

Special pathways

  • Dean’s Rural List (DRL): reserved rural places; December interview cut-offs are UCAT-based.
  • Indigenous Entry Scheme: replaces UCAT/MMI with a panel interview for eligible applicants.
  • Bonded Medical Program (BMP): a proportion of domestic places are bonded nationally.

Monash University Malaysia - Medicine

  • This program is also offered at the Monash Malaysia campus. It follows the same curriculum and structure of the Clayton-based course.
  • International applicants committed to pursuing a career as a doctor are strongly encouraged to also apply for the course in Malaysia as an alternative entry option.

  • DRL applications close 12:00 pm (midday) Fri 10 Oct 2025 (Melbourne time).
VTAC equity (SEAS) closes 13 October 2025 — 5:00 pm (Melbourne time).
First round interviews — DRL November 2025
  • Invitations released: Mon 13 Oct 2025.
  • Open to any student (any location) who qualifies for the DRL.
  • Selection for interview: UCAT ANZ total only.
  • Interviews on Zoom: 26 & 27 Nov 2025.
First round interviews — Victorian-based (non-DRL) December 2025
  • Invitations released: Wed 15 Oct 2025.
  • Location determined by VTAC residential address at close of timely applications (29 Sep 2025).
  • Selection for interview: UCAT ANZ total only.
  • Interviews on Zoom: 2 & 3 Dec 2025.
Second round interviews January 2026
  • Invitations released: Fri 19 Dec 2025.
  • Open to Victorian-based applicants and any DRL-eligible applicant (any location).
  • Selection: equally-weighted ATAR aggregate (incl. adjustments) + UCAT ANZ total.
  • Interviews on Zoom: 5 & 6 Jan 2026.
Third round interviews January 2026
  • Invitations released: Fri 9 Jan 2026.
  • Open to applicants who completed Year 12 interstate.
  • Selection: equally-weighted ATAR aggregate (incl. adjustments) + UCAT ANZ total.
  • Interviews on Zoom: 15 Jan 2026.
Final round interviews January 2026
  • Invitations released: Fri 16 Jan 2026.
  • Open to applicants who completed Year 12 overseas.
  • Selection: equally-weighted ATAR aggregate (incl. adjustments) + UCAT ANZ total.
  • Interviews on Zoom: 20 Jan 2026.

 
Number of places Approx. 234 domestic places at Clayton each year, including 30 Extended Rural Cohort (ERC) places. About 27% of places are reserved for DRL; ~28.5% of domestic places are Bonded Medical Places (BMP) nationally.
