Year 12 Students: University Applications Guidance for Medicine & Dentistry
Applications for medical and dental degrees are often more complex than simply listing course preferences through UAC, VTAC, QTAC, SATAC or TISC.
Depending on the university, students may also need to complete direct or supplementary applications, written responses, provide letters of support, submit predicted ATAR information or complete additional assessments by strict deadlines.
To help students understand these requirements and plan their applications, the National Institute of Education (NIE) is offering a live and interactive Medical School Application Strategy and Guidance Webinar.

Future Doctors Australia Program

8–11 October 2026 — School Holidays
For students in Years 9–12
The Future Doctors Australia Program offers students four immersive days of medical career exploration, helping them discover whether medicine could be the right career path for them.
Students take part in hands-on clinical activities, practise healthcare communication, meet doctors and medical students, and hear firsthand about medical specialties and professional journeys. Students also receive an introduction to medical admission pathways, the UCAT and interviews — helping them understand both the rewards and requirements of pursuing medicine.
The program is particularly valuable for students who are beginning to explore their career options, providing insight before they choose senior subjects and make future study decisions. Students do not need to have decided on medicine to take part.

UCAT ANZ 2026 Preliminary Statistics Are Now Available
The UCAT ANZ 2026 preliminary statistics are now available, giving students a clearer indication of how this year’s cohort has performed.
Students who sat the UCAT ANZ this year and are considering applying for medicine or dentistry can read NIE’s full analysis of the preliminary statistics, score trends and what the results may mean for their next steps.

Year 12 Students: Next Steps for Medicine and Dentistry Applications
Year 12 students applying to medicine or dentistry this year are encouraged to begin preparing for the university applications and interview stages.
In addition to listing their official preferences through their state admissions body — UAC, QTAC, VTAC, SATAC, or TISC — some medical and dental schools require students to submit applications directly to the university as well. Certain universities may also require students to submit their predicted ATAR.
Medical and dental interviews may use a Multiple Mini Interview (MMI) or structured panel format and may be conducted online or face-to-face.

- 5–6 September: Comprehensive Interview Training Workshop. (More dates available).
- 13 September: Medical School Application Strategy and Guidance Class — Australia, New Zealand and the United Kingdom.
- 21 November: Public, Rural and Indigenous Health Topics in Medical Interviews Webinar.
Beginning early allows students to strengthen their communication, practise responding under pressure and build confidence before interview offers are released.
