We will discuss what your UCAT score and percentile may mean, how to interpret your position and why a national percentile should not automatically be treated as a university interview cut-off.

Learn how to review university options in the context of UCAT, academic performance and different admissions processes rather than relying on one score alone.

We will explain common interview formats, what universities may assess and why interview preparation becomes an important next step for competitive applicants.
Interview Assessment Criteria
Explore areas commonly assessed during medical and dental interviews, including communication, reasoning, motivation, ethical judgement, teamwork and interpersonal skills.
Sample Interview Questions
We will look at examples of the types of questions and scenarios applicants may encounter and discuss how effective responses should be approached.
Medicine Pathways Without UCAT
We will also discuss relevant undergraduate pathways that do not use UCAT, including options at James Cook University and Bond University.
What Should I Do After UCAT?
Your UCAT result should be considered as one part of your overall application. The next step is to assess your UCAT alongside your academic results, applicant category and the selection process used by each university.
UCAT ANZ provides an official percentile lookup for the current testing cycle and also notes that universities can use UCAT in different ways. This is why one national score cannot reliably predict an interview outcome at every university.

How Should I Review My University Options After UCAT?
The best post-UCAT strategy is not simply to classify a score as “good” or “bad”. Different universities use UCAT, academic results and applicant categories differently.
- Check how each university uses UCAT. It may be used as a threshold, ranking measure or as part of a broader selection process.
- Review your academic position. ATAR, selection rank, GPA and prerequisite subjects may remain important even with a strong UCAT.
- Consider your applicant category. Rural, regional, Indigenous, equity or other entry pathways can have different selection criteria.
- Look at non-UCAT pathways where relevant. A lower UCAT result does not necessarily remove every Medicine or Dentistry option.

What If My UCAT Score Is Lower Than Expected?
A lower-than-expected UCAT score may make some heavily UCAT-ranked pathways more difficult, but it does not mean that every Medicine or Dentistry option has disappeared.
James Cook University
James Cook University states that UCAT and GAMSAT are not used as part of its undergraduate Medicine or Dentistry selection process. Applicants should still review JCU's current academic and course-specific admissions requirements before applying.
Bond University Medicine
Bond University also follows a different admissions pathway. Applicants are assessed academically before selected candidates progress to psychometric testing and then interview.

If Bond is part of your application strategy, psychometric testing is an important selection stage and should be prepared for separately from UCAT.

If your UCAT and academic profile appear competitive, it can be useful to begin developing interview skills before invitations are released. The time between receiving an invitation and attending an interview can sometimes be limited.
Good interview preparation is not about memorising model answers. It should help you communicate clearly, analyse unfamiliar situations, explain your reasoning and respond naturally under pressure.
Areas commonly worth developing include:
- communication and interpersonal skills;
- ethical reasoning and judgement;
- motivation for Medicine or Dentistry;
- empathy and self-awareness;
- teamwork and leadership;
- critical thinking and problem solving; and
- responding to unfamiliar scenarios.

Do I need a high UCAT score to attend?
No. The webinar is relevant regardless of your UCAT result. It includes discussion of score interpretation, university choices and options where UCAT may not be required.
Can I still apply for Medicine if my UCAT score is low?
Possibly. Selection criteria vary between universities. Some pathways do not use UCAT, while other universities combine UCAT with academic results and other selection criteria.
Will the webinar cover medical interview preparation?
Yes. The session includes interview structures, assessment criteria, sample questions and practical guidance about preparing for Medicine and Dentistry interviews.
