Major medicine-entry update covered in this manual
The manual explains the important change to the way undergraduate medicine entry scores are calculated from 2027. Leaving Certificate points above 550 will no longer be moderated, and HPAT points will be weighted to a maximum of 150 points instead of 300. This means the maximum combined score for medicine entry will become 775 points, made up of Leaving Certificate 625 points plus HPAT 150 points.
This change means Leaving Certificate performance will carry greater weight in the medicine-entry calculation. However, HPAT remains a required and important part of the process for relevant applicants, and strong HPAT preparation may still help students improve their competitive position.
