JCU Applications: Webinar Date, Time and Format

When: 30 August 2026, 12.00pm–3.30pm (AEST)

This will be the only session this season.

Duration: 3 hours + 30-minute break

Format: Live webinar

The recording will not be available, so please arrive on time. Summary notes will be provided.

JCU Dentistry Written Application

This component is specifically for applicants applying for JCU Dentistry.

During this part of the session, you will work through the written component of the James Cook University Dentistry application.

The focus will be on getting the tone of your application "just right" to show your true self and demonstrate how you will add value to the university course.

You will learn how to use your application to:

  • Present your strengths effectively.
  • Create a competitive written response to the JCU questions.
  • Show your true self through your written application.
  • Demonstrate your understanding of the importance of rural and Indigenous health.

Guided JCU Dentistry Application Tasks

You will undertake guided tasks and activities to get you started with your JCU Dentistry application, followed by discussions about areas where you can improve your application.

The session will focus on developing your own responses and presenting your experiences, strengths and motivation clearly and authentically.

JCU Dentistry Character References and Letters of Support

This part of the session will also cover the necessary supporting documents for the JCU Dentistry application, including JCU Dentistry Application Letters of Support.

You will learn how to coordinate the collection of these letters from your supporters and how to organise the necessary supporting documentation for your application.

JCU Bachelor of Dental Surgery Personal Statement

The JCU Dentistry component of the session will conclude with you drafting your JCU Bachelor of Dental Surgery personal statement.

You can then continue working on your personal statement in preparation for the submission of your application by the due date.

Please note: The written application, personal statement, character references and Letters of Support component of this webinar is specifically for JCU Dentistry applicants.

Medical & Dental Interview Preparation: Public, Rural and Indigenous Health

This component is relevant to applicants preparing for Medical and Dental interviews for various Australian universities.

Understanding public, rural and Indigenous health is an important area to prepare for when developing your ability to answer questions relating to these topics in Medical and Dental interviews.

This part of the webinar will help you develop your understanding of these important health issues and consider how to approach questions relating to them.

Rural and Indigenous Health

You will:

  • Understand the significance of rural and Indigenous health in the medical field.
  • Explore James Cook University's focus on rural and Indigenous health and the opportunities it offers.
  • Learn how to highlight your experiences and involvement in rural and Indigenous communities.
  • Gain insights into the challenges and rewards of practising healthcare in these areas.
  • Develop your understanding of important rural and Indigenous health issues that may be relevant when answering Medical and Dental interview questions.

Preparing for Medical and Dental Interview Questions

The public, rural and Indigenous health component is designed to help applicants become better informed about important health issues and develop their ability to consider and respond to questions relating to these areas.

These topics are relevant to applicants preparing for Medical and Dental interviews, where an understanding of broader health issues and the communities served by healthcare professionals can be important to interview discussions.

The focus is on developing your understanding of these issues so that you can approach relevant interview questions thoughtfully and demonstrate your awareness of the broader healthcare environment.

Who Is This JCU Application and Interview Webinar For?

This workshop is open to all applicants interested in applying for the Medical and/or Dental Degree program at James Cook University.

The different components of the webinar are relevant to applicants in different ways:

  • JCU Dentistry applicants: The written application component covers the JCU Dentistry written application, personal statement, character references and Letters of Support.
  • Medical applicants: The public, rural and Indigenous health component provides preparation for understanding and considering these topics when preparing for Medical interviews.
  • Dental applicants: The public, rural and Indigenous health component is also relevant to preparation for Dental interviews. Please note, JCU Dentistry does not have an interview component as part of selection criteria.
