Wendy Qasem

As the Perth representative for the National Institute of Education’s Future Doctors Australia program, Wendy supports high-achieving students through immersive learning and early exposure to health and medical careers. 

“Programs like Future Doctors allow young people to see beyond the classroom,” she says. “They create belief—belief that students belong in professional spaces and can shape their own futures.”

Wendy believes the future of medicine lies not just in producing graduates, but in fostering environments that spark intellectual curiosity, promote engagement with medical advancements, and provide meaningful mentorship.

Wendy also works as a Senior Teacher and Program Coordinator of Specialist Programs & STEM at a Perth senior high school. With over 25 years of teaching experience—including in the Middle East, regional and metropolitan WA—Wendy brings a global perspective and inclusive mindset to her work.

For over a decade, she has specialised in career development and transition education and was one of 70 professionals selected for the WA Department of Education’s inaugural Career Practitioner initiative. Her diverse leadership experience includes roles such as Engagement Coordinator, Academic Excellence Coordinator, Careers and Transitions Coordinator, and Teaching and Learning Program Coordinator.

Wendy regularly presents at education conferences and professional development events, particularly on career education and the role of AI in schools. She is an Executive Member of the Career Education Association of Western Australia and continues to mentor students beyond school into their tertiary and professional lives.
