The UMAT Consortium universities in Australia and New Zealand are embarking on an exciting new collaboration with similar universities in the UK. From 2019 students interested in studying Medicine, Dentistry and some other Clinical Science courses in Australia or New Zealand will sit the UCAT ANZ (University Clinical Aptitude Test Australia and New Zealand) as part of their admissions process. This is exciting news! UCAT is a test that has been around since 2006, and at NIE we are very familiar with the sections and structure of this test. For our current NIE students who are holders of the UMAT preparation books, please do not panic.
From the information that has been provided at this stage by UCAT Officials we know that the sections of the UCAT are similar to UMAT in terms of what they are trying to assess the students on, so a lot of strategic and question-approaches information from the UMAT Books are still applicable to your UCAT preparation. The structure of the UCAT questions is different in some instances, also instead of the Understanding People UMAT Construct a somewhat different section known as 'Situational Judgement' has been added to the exam.
Are you in Year 10 or 11? You need to be well into your UCAT-preparation...

In 2016 Bond has cancelled UMAT as part of their selection criteria into medicine. However, as of 2018 (current season), Bond University has introduced their own Psychometric Test as part of their selection criteria into their medical degree. Based on student's academic achievement, about 50% of applicants will be offered an opportunity to complete a compulsory online test. There is a fee for this Psychometric Test which will have to be paid by the student. The MMI interview offers for Bond University will be based on the results of this Psychometric Test.
The test aims to select students with character traits important for a successful career as a Doctor, for example, resilience, logical reasoning and empathy. Moreover, the test is designed to “rule out” personality traits such as narcissism, which have been recognised as a common cause of rogue (dishonest and unprincipled) medical practitioners.
